    Worth the upgrade

First, the description says in the box - 10 friction plates and 10 metal plates. The instructions only call out 10/9. This is misleading and caused confusion at the dealer as well. I wanted the springless kit which said 10/9 and the heavier springs separately. I ended up with this kit because expected I might be missing something. (I wasn't - I think description for this kit is in error.) I had the dealer do the upgrade 23000 miles ago. So the original upgrade lasted at least 23000 miles, and I wasn't forced to do this upgrade yet. (I simply forgot that I had paid to have it done in the mix and wanted to add to the bike.) However, I think the tech reinstalled the OEM springs back then with the new clutch because the coil rate between what I took off and what I put on was definitely different. I didn't notice much of a boost back then (off the line has always been sluggish) and I do notice an improvement now. It is more responsive. I am happy to have done this at this time. I have no other experience with after market clutches, so I am only doing 4 stars. Just being conservatively honest with the 4 star rating. The service manual is a good resource if you have not done this before. Relying solely on the instructions I found could be misleading, especially trying to follow the sequence from the limited image while doing the work. The service manual spells out a few more details that should have been included with the basic instructions. Be sure to reseat the damper spring even if it doesn't look disturbed. 3-5 hours with mistakes... read more.

I just picked this kit up today and all is easy until you go to install the plates , the directions do not take into count all the plates and is a little miss leading . I’m wondering what plates go first and last?

Look at the instructions figure 1. It tells you the order. https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson.com/sip/service/document/216637?locale=en_US

2017 FLTRU with torque cam added. Stock clutch slips 10k miles after cam install. Found the damper spring had ground a ring in the steel plate next to it. Will I use the damper spring with this set-up and will it grind rings into the steel plates?
    Poppaderf - CT
    • Answer:
Poppaderf; yes you will need to reinstall the damper spring and damper seat with this clutch kit. There will be a noticeable contact on the damper seat but should not grind a ring into it. Thanks, LeakyShovel73

  • Question:
    4/11/2020
On a 2017 FLHX should the discs and friction plates be installed with or without the spring and spacer? With the spring and spacer installed as in the instructions the clutch doesn't separate, without the spring there is good separation.
    • Answer:
Hello DukeE, You would reuse the damper spring and seat with this clutch kit. After assembly measure your clutch lift as outlined in the service manual. Thanks, Openroads
