Difficult but doable This project is fairly difficult, but is doable and will be easier with: • the appropriate service manual • the use of a quality tool to install the amp electrical contacts onto the wire • a sturdy pick like the Snap-On® TT600-3, recommended in the directions • a test light to double check which wires control which function before you reinstall the amp connectors into their housings. I disconnected the battery ground and pulled the main fuse but did not remove the ECM. I removed the fasteners of the fender extension and the fender. I also raised the bike and dropped the rear wheel. All just easier for me. Removing the amp connectors can be very difficult. One inserts the pic into the connector housing from the front, above the connector, and on a steep angle - pic end up. You will hit a stop. Push firmly against it and move the pic end down. The connect should come loose from the housing. It does not always work according to plan the first time. H-D suggests mechanic’s wire to guide the rear lamp wire harness through the “relocation weldment” tubing. Yup. H-D suggests running the rest of the wires individually w/o a guide. Yup. I used silicone spray to lube everything I wanted to move along easily. To me, the rear lamp harness is not long enough, but I just used the additional harness extension and the supplied housings to make the trip to under the seat. I went outside the rear fender with mine to avoid drowning the connection in water when it rains. It did not matter to me because the they hid well and I am running bags. All connections get a little silicone grease It is very important that your finished connections (amp contact to wire) look as close as possible to factory and that you grab the wire insulation, along with the wire, when you crimp. Double check that all wires are protected. Consider using some caulk to plug the ends of the “relocation weldment” where the wire exits toward the area under the seat. As noted in, “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance”: over time, you will make no more mistakes working on your scoot than the mechanics you pay to do the work. Fair well. read more.

This kit is difficult to install but needed.

Difficult to install but a needed modification if you are installing bags on a 2019 Sportster FourtyEight. Overall the kit is solid and good quality and I am a professional mechanic so this is from someone who knows. The plugs are a bit difficult to switch out and you will definitely need a pin removal tool. It would be nice if they included new pin housings (plug housings) in the kit so you would not have to reuse the old pin housings. Pin housings cost a few pennies so I am not sure why they did not include them. read more.

A little hard to install, but looks amazing after its on there. The hardest part was getting all three wires into the piping. Lubricants would of helped, but got it finished with out. Not an impossible feat, but isn’t an easy one.

    Poor support and missing parts

The looks good on my sporter but when I was putting it together it was missing pieces. It did not come with the  License plate illuminator but I was able to use the one that was on my bike. It also didn't come with the License plate illuminator cover so I had to put tape on the light so it won't be distracting to drivers behind me. Support won't just send me the parts I need they want me to send the whole kit back. read more.

Does anyone have the dimensions for this? I have a square, European license plate that fits in the factory side mount but want a rear mount and then saddle bags. Not sure if my number plates will fit in this kit. The license plate is about 8” wide x 9”

Hello!! I have a 2011 iron 883, when the kit was installed I just realized that the bike's license light was bigger than the space in the mounting plate, does anybody know the part for the small license light?
    Pedro - Ecuador
    • Answer:
Pedro; For NON Domestic motorcycles the license plate illuminator should be pn 68183-07. Thanks, LeakyShovel73

The rivet on the left side that you drill out, does the kit come with a replacement rivet? If not, what is the partnumber to order one? Thank you
    Iron1200 - Houston, TX
    • Answer:
Hello Iron1200, You do not need to replace them as they are just to hold the license plate bracket on and since this is a relocation its not used anymore. Gigglesthehelper

hi, i have a 2021 sportster 1200XL and had the harley Davidson one-piece detachable sissy bar installed. i am wondering if this kit will still work with that sissy bar already on the bike? part number for sissy bar is 51146-10A
    joe creed - bostonn
    • Answer:
I was worried about the same thing but once the kit was installed I saw that the pipes go under the screw that holds the sissy so there’s no problem, however I have a problem with the size of the license light, mine I bigger than the space in the kit.
  • Question:

We are trying to install saddle bags on a 2019 Forty Eight, part number 90201321, will this relocation kit work with those bags? Thanks, D
    nhk750 - Seattle, WA
    • Answer:
We ended up using the parts suggested and it all worked great. It is a bit difficult to install and I am a mechanic, so be prepared if you are not. Parts used: Rigid Leather Locking Saddlebags (P/N 90201321), license plate relocation kit (P/N 73279-10)
      • Answer:
Hi nhk750, In the Fitment Description, it states Pn 73279-10 would be needed to relocate the License Plate/Turn Signal Relocation on a 2019 XL1200X. Thanks.
