    Truly appears to 'float'.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought these "floating" disk breaks for the front and rear wheels. At the time I didn't understand why they were titled "floating" but I bought them because I had just had the wheels powder coated gloss black and I thought the black stars on the disc brakes would look good. After riding with a couple of friends they told me that when the bike is moving, the break area of the disk pads appear to float in front of the black wheel spinning behind it. They said it was a cool optical affect. I still haven't seen it like from that perspective as I'm always on it! I guess I need to find a glass building to ride by. read more.

    • Actually, what it means is the center part ( the spyder) is fixed to the wheel. the outer ring is attached by buttons that allow movement so the brake pads contact the rotor more even. There is more, but ive maxed out this coment

    • They're actually called that because the braking surface and carrier aren't one physical piece. Instead it's two separate pieces attached by those "buttons." They're supposed to dissipate heat better.
