Question:2/14/2022My 2007 Ultra Classic has the self adjusting primary chain tensioner. There is a lot of chatter out there about those over tightening the chain and tearing up other stuff. While I'm in there, should I replace it with a manual adjusting tensioner?GZOUC - Raleigh

Answer:LowRiderGuy gave you an incorrect answer. The self adjuster was changed in 2010 I think BECAUSE the early ones did overtighten the primary chain causing issues with both shaft bearings and races. Keep a close eye on the chain overtension possibilities.

Answer:Hello GZOUC, The self adjusting primary chain tensioner requires no maintenance. Its self ratchets to the next step as the chain stretches and doesn't have the ability to over tighten the chain, even in a hard launch event. Replacing with a manual adjusting tensioner is not going to fix anything, except require more maintenance attention. Regards, LowRiderGuy read more.
